Designing for Location: 3 Signage Rules to Follow

The placement of signage or billboards is perhaps one of the most important decisions your company will make when it comes to this type of advertising, aside from deciding on the sheer size and scale of the project. Here are three factors to consider when choosing the location for your signage:

1. Think About the Primary Placement

You know the rule: choose high traffic areas with lots of visibility. But before you get all excited, think about the primary location of the sign itself: where will the design be displayed? A yard sign or a real estate agents board will sit on the ground. Billboards will be hung high. Other signs can be displayed indoors. The main purpose of your design and its audience will determine its primary location and its design features.

2. Consider the Environment

Looking at the environment where your signage is displayed will help you in finalising your design. Pay attention to colours in the background, and also the lighting factor (indoor versus outdoor). Select a colour palette that contrasts with the environment and is easily visible and readable by your target. Also, bear in mind whether your sign has borders and its thickness and how this design feature blends in with the environment. Are you going to use the same design in more than one location, in various environments? Consider multiple versions of the design, and give priority to the highest traffic areas. CNC machines are programmed with a design which can then be manufactured multiple times. Each product will be exactly identical. We can manufacture products and create designs that cannot be made by manual machines, even those used by skilled designers/engineers. [/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

3. Play by the Rules Location can play an important role in determining your final signage design. Make sure you are allowed to display your message in the chosen areas, and check whether you need to meet certain requirements to do so. Investigate any regulations with regards to signage and billboards advertising before going forward with the project, as these may affect your final design. With the above considerations in mind, you should get a better idea of the suitable locations for your signage, and the perfect fit between its design and location.
